testing meters on heating oil trucks for accuracy and that the price is computed
correctly.
Within
the city limits, gasoline meters must be accurate with a maintenance tolerance
of 1cubic inch per gallon (231 cu. in = 1 gallon) or 4/10ths of 1 percent.
Heating oil truck meters must be within 75 cu.ins. per 100 gallons (3/10ths of 1
percent. One of the must important test is, air elimination, so that no trapped
air in the system will go through the meter and be counted as fuel and charged
to the customer.

There
are over 1,800 gasoline meters to be tested annually plus any consumer
complaints. There are 68 heating truck meters to be tested annually. If meters
are out of tolerance they are rejected and/or condemned and must be recalibrated
within a specific time. If they are approve then a seal is applied showing when
last inspected.
